Maybelline’s Buff Lipstick Collection: My New Drugstore Makeup Obsession for Spring?

Ah, spring time. Spring time, how I missed thee.I sometimes still miss you since I live in Georgia and we get all four seasons in a week  Oh, but I digress because with the season change comes new makeup to love. I have officially developed a lipstick problem. I have so many now, that sometimes I forget to love them as much as I should. So as I walked through Wal-Mart and my habitual rounds of the beauty aisle, I really tried to avoid looking at all the pretty tubes. How can you resist cheap makeup that gets the job done? Darn you, Maybelline! Why did they have to be right at eye level? They must have heard my struggle of finding flattering nudes because each of the five (5) I’ve picked up has been pretty spot-on, with the exception of one that needs a little help, but I’ll get to that in a minute.

All of the lipsticks are very smooth, creamy and non-drying. They leave a bit of a sheen on the lips, almost like you’re wearing a gloss over it. I like that a lot since I have a habit of leaving my house without gloss. I can re apply the color without a case of the crusties. You know what I'm talking about. That thing that happens with lipstick that causes the absolute worst chapped lip look ever. Yeah, that. Don't have that problem with these, so that's a definite thumbs up. Also, I estimate that I’ve gotten a good three (3) hour wear time out of all of these unless I was stuffing my face. Another plus.
So, first on the list is Nude Lust, the one that needs a bit of help. It's a little on the beige side for me, but looks much better with a lip liner and gloss. Without it, I'm up in here looking like Tyrone Bigums.

Not cool...

It can look like an entirely different shade depending on the pairing, which makes it a great starting point.

All alone
Nude Lust
Liner: Starlooks Tickled Pink/ Gloss: Laura Mercier Bare Pink
  Nude Lust-pink
Liner: NYX Currant blended for a little bit of an ombre effect
Nude Lust-currant
Liner: NYX Currant/ Gloss: Nicka K.Lip Shine in Glory
  Nude Lust-gold
As a side note, Glory is a gorgeous gold gloss that I got from for $1. Yep. Just One. If your local beauty supply sells any Nicka K cosmetics, I suggest you go hunt this gloss down and buy them all. If not, click that link. You’ll be in heaven.

Next up is Maple Kiss which has an orange/copper undertone to it. It’s tied for favorite with Stormy Sahara. I think this color would be gorgeous on my dark-skinned divas.

Stormy Sahara is pretty much the same color as my lips, so it’s my go to when I’m in a hurry. It has a tiny bit of orange to it as well.

Touchable Taupe is a muted brown that appears just a teeny bit gray on me. It’s not a bad color on it’s own, but I find myself wanting to put something pink on top of it. A dark lip liner could make a huge difference.

Espresso Exposed was a bit of a surprise for me. I love it, even though it’s not nude like the rest. I will also note that I had to put a swipe of concealer over my lips by this time because my lips were turning red from  all the wiping. I think they were trying to consider the women with the  most chocolatey skin tones with this one. It’s a plum-red color that leaves a pretty stain on the lips.
